Hello!

My name is Katie Reeves and I am so excited to be your child's fourth grade teacher this year! I am teaching reading, writing, and social studies. It is going to be a wonderful year full of learning and new experiences! I can't wait to get to know about all of my students, but first- here is a little about me!

I was born outside of Chicago, Illinois and moved to York, Pennsylvania as a young child. I lived in Pennsylvania for over 15 years, and then I moved to Houston, Texas and have been here a little over 3 years now and I love it!
I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach kindergarten through 6th grade, as well as GT (gifted/talented) and ESL (English as a second language) students.

This is my 4th year of teaching and my 1st year at Timber Creek! I'm very excited to be in fourth grade, but I have also taught 5th grade and 3rd grade in Spring ISD.

In my free time I enjoy exercising, reading, and spending time with family and friends. I also LOVE animals (of all kinds) but I don't have any pets yet! I am looking forward to getting to know each of my students and having a fantastic year!

Writing Benchmark!

Just a reminder- the writing benchmark is this Wednesday the 31st and Thursday the 1st.

It is broken up into two days- revising/editing questions on Wednesday, and the written essay on Thursday.

Students are encouraged to bring a healthy, non-messy snack to eat during the test both days.

Thanks!!

Parents,

We are beginning to read The One and Only Ivan as a district! This is a fantastic opportunity for you to read at home with your child each night! There is a calendar coming home today in Wednesday folders that outlines the nightly readings, and the idea behind this district activity. Your child will be coming home with their copy of the book today, so be sure to look for that! It's a great chance to read and interact with your child at home, and ask them questions that further their comprehension.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Happy reading :)

Polar Express Day!

The Polar Express
Students will celebrate the holidays with a Timber Creek tradition this week!  Each grade level will enjoy popcorn and the movie “The Polar Express” in the library.  Please send a water bottle or a water container (Thermos-type) with your child so they will have something to drink with their popcorn.
Your student may wear school appropriate pajamas to school on their designated movie day; however, please be sure your child wears regular shoes that day so they may continue to participate in their Specials class and recess.  Thank you to Mrs. Russell, our librarian, and our amazing PTO for making this transition possible each year!

The grade level schedule is as follows:
Monday, December 18th
Fourth Grade
Tuesday, December 19th

4th Grade Program!

Hello 4th Grade Parents!

I just wanted to send out a reminder for your child's upcoming Music Program, “An American Dream." I have ALL of their program songs listed on my Edlio site so they can practice at home. I am doing a competition between the classes to see which class can get it memorized first. All of the songs have the words and the music files to help them out. Here is the link so that they can practice:

Do you have a love of math?

Calling all parents with a love for Math!  We are growing our TMSCA Teams this year.  There are a couple of ways you can help.  We need coaches for 3rd - 5th graders who will compete in in TMSCA tournaments. We need your expertise in the following categories:

* General Mathematics

* Number Sense (mental math)

* Calculator Applications

* Science

1. You can volunteer to coach at our weekly practices once a week or bi-weekly.

     (We have lots of resources to assist you).

2.  You can volunteer to record a lesson via video for our students to watch during practice.

We would love to have your help as we build a strong and competitive TMSCA team.

Please contact Sheri Sims at sherisims@tomballisd.net with questions or to volunteer! We appreciate you!

Don't forget... Friday October 6th is an early release day!
We will dismiss at 12:50 pm.

Also, Monday October 9th is a student holiday.
If there is anyone available during the day that would be willing to come in and help me with various classroom tasks, please message me on class dojo or email me!
I am in need of a volunteer to come in this week and help cover our interactive notebooks with clear contact paper! :)
