Charles Barnhouse
5th Grade Math & Science Teacher
Welcome to 5th grade
The 2020-2021 school year is my 24th year of teaching and my 6th year in Tomball ISD. I started my teaching career in Spring Branch ISD in 1997 at Buffalo Creek Elementary. After 11 years in Spring Branch ISD I transferred to Spring ISD where I taught for 7 years. I worked at Meyer Elementary and at Winship Elementary while in Spring ISD. I have had a variety of teaching assignments in my career including Kindergarten, K/1 Multi-age, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, Special Education pull-out support, and Structured Learning.
In October 2020, my wife and I will celebrate our 21st anniversary. We have two children; a 20 year old - Nicholas & a 17 year old - Jaxson - a Senior at Spring High School - in Spring ISD.
Our family stays very busy supporting our kids in various activities including golf, swimming, tennis and softball. We enjoy going to the movies as a family as well. In addition to teaching CTE classes at Dekaney High School my wife is also the Dekaney Girl's Varsity Tennis Coach.

Science materials for next week

Parents...we will be learning about sound energy next week and I have some activities planned that your child might want to do at home instead of watching me do them virtually. Here are the supplies they will need if you want them to be able to have some hands-on experiences next week in Science.

**Purchasing/providing these materials is not required and your child will not be penalized for not having the supplies - it will just enhance their learning experiences.

Materials for sound energy:

* plastic straws (not bendable straws) - 2-3 just in case

* scissors

* metal slinky

* styrofoam cup - 2-3 just in case

* wooden or hard plastic ruler

* plastic wrapper from candy (like peppermint or Jolly Ranchers are wrapped in)

* yarn or string (maybe 1-2 feet)

Thank you in advance for helping me bring the learning experiences to life and sorry in advance for all the noise we will be making next week during Science :)

Parents...if you plan on volunteering on our campus as a WATCH D.O.G., library or classroom helper, or in any other way you must complete the annual Volunteer Application that can be found by clicking here. Once your application has been processed, a list is sent to our receptionist on a weekly basis. You may check with our receptionist to see if your application has been processed successfully for you to be able to volunteer on our campus. The application process can take up to two weeks to be processed, so please make sure this is done several weeks prior to the day you plan on volunteering on campus.
