Our 3rd graders have worked very hard this year to learn and master their multiplication and division facts, and we want to ensure that they stay just as prepared over the summer months! Keeping up with students fact proficiency will be one of the most crucial skills to ensure that they are ready to tackle more complex algorithms of multiplication and division in 4th grade. We have created a summer incentive for you to use at home to keep your child motivated to keep up the hard work! A blue recording sheet was in your child’s report card, please use this to keep track throughout the summer and have your child bring the completed recording sheet and any practice tests to school with them when they return in August so their 4th grade teacher can celebrate their hard work with them and reward them with some beginning of the year cougar bucks for keeping up with their math!
Here are some ways we encourage fact practice:
First in Math - each student has a personal account that is active until July 31st- be sure they are focusing on master of multiplication and division facts.
GregTangMath.com- free website with ways to practice facts using games
Flash Card Folders- if students use flashcards to practice, have them store these in a folder, one side being the facts they know and the other side for facts they are still learning. This way they can visually see their pile get smaller as they get better and better with their facts!
You can find an extra copy of the tracking sheet as well as resources attached right here on my Edlio page!
Have a wonderful summer!!
